Patient Pixies fans had long sensed that the group's recent spate of new singles and EPs was leading toward a full album. Their hunch was correct. It was confirmed on Monday that Pixies would release their first studio album in over twenty years, Indie Cindy, on April 29 in the States (April 28 in the UK/Europe and April 23 in Japan).
The album, Pixies' first since 1991's Trompe le Monde, will be released on the band's own Pixiesmusic label and distributed via [PIAS] Recordings. There are various formats of Indie Cindy available for pre-order now at Pixies' website. For Record Store Day, April 19, Indie Cindy will be available as a very limited edition, two-disc, deluxe gatefold, 180-gram vinyl set at participating shops.
An expanded digital set, available through iTunes, will also include a 13-track live concert release of Pixies' recent North American tour, including touring bassist Paz Lenchantin.
The 12-track Indie Cindy was produced by Gil Norton, who also helmed Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde, and it was recorded in Wales in October 2012. Previously released singles and EPs, like "Bagboy" and the title track, will be included on the full Indie Cindy release. All songs were written by Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering. Additional guests included Ding on bass and Jeremy Dubs on backing vocals. None of the sessions included Kim Deal who, according to a press release, left the band six days into the recording of the album.
